ACCHSH Solutions at Presspublica

Presspublica, the publisher of the “Rzeczpospolita” daily has recently invested in ACC HSH Group’s automatic pairing and imposition solution WebPairer.
It was the first installation of the PuzzleFlow-based WebPairer software in this configuration in Poland.

WebPairer is the ACC HSH Group’s production environment for newspaper publishers, and is based on the PuzzleFlow workflow system and it is also equipped with an Internet interface. The system provides a set of tools for job tracking and deadline control to customise the pairing process for newspaper production requirements. At Presspublica, WebPairer is used for processing the company’s own publications as well as jobs from external customers.

Krzysztof Dabkowski, Deputy Technical Director of the Prepress Department at Presspublica, says: Our co-operation with ACC HSH Group began in 2000. At that time we had implemented ACC HSH Group’s Pairer program allowing imposition in PDF format. This software was WebPairer’s forerunner. During these couple of years our companies were developing and improving this program, which was firstly implemented for our external customers’ jobs processing. Today we can call this period as “good roots” for a production system, finally named WebPairer.

In 2004, after PuzzleFlow’s premiere at Poligrafia fair in Poznan, ACC HSH Group started working on the final version of WebPairer, allowing automatic pairing and imposition. And again Presspublica participated in this project either as a user or as an advisor. In April 2006 the final version was ready – Krzysztof Dabkowski says. – And at that time we completely implemented the software within Presspublica’s production process. Presently we use WebPairer for the majority of external jobs as well as for our own publications. I guess that soon the ACC HSH Group’s system will be used for processing all files received by our department.

WebPairer performs three stage processing. The pre-imposition stage includes preflighting, page geometry correction, colour correction, personalisation etc. The second stage is imposition – page pairing and powerful plate naming management. The final stage is post-imposition – OPI resolving, resampling, separation, halftoning, postflight and output redistribution. The additional deadline control module allows job tracking, deadline control and informs about possible delays.

Krzysztof Dabkowski underlines that ACC HSH Group’s system significantly improved work at Presspublica’s prepress department: Its big advantage is the opportunity of working on any computer equipped with a web browser. It means that production configuration and its monitoring can be done from any place, independently from the PuzzleFlow server, which is the base for WebPairer. The system includes many functions which speed up our production, e.g. deadline control and a preflighting module which helped us eliminate the majority of mistakes in the received files. Another function is a developed module of pages and sheets names recognition. Moreover, thanks to its PDF platform, WebPairer is fully compatible with other programs that we use. We also expect further improvement of the program’s functionality. According to our colleagues at ACC HSH Group, among the developing modules will be a reporting module and a customer interface allowing remote job tracking.

Krzysztof Dabkowski adds that in 2000 ACC HSH Group was the only company capable of delivering fully functional PDF-based product: We are very satisfied with our long-term co-operation with ACC HSH Group and the results of our participation in developing WebPairer. During all these years the ACC HSH Group’s technical support has offered us a professional approach and great flexibility, quickly responding to our remarks and any problems which appeared during the WebPairer implementation.

Andrzej Czyz, partner at ACC HSH Group, adds: We are very glad that WebPairer has attracted the interest of Presspublica, one of the most important newspaper publishers in Poland, especially, when considering it is the first implementation in Poland of  WebPairer in such a configuration. We hope that WebPairer will soon support the whole production carried out by Presspublica, either the company’s own publications, or external jobs.
